2023 is the 30th anniversary of most of us meeting at Newcastle University. Since then great friendships have been forged, marriages taken place and offspring emerged within an amazing global social scene. From Singapore to Scaldwell, Doha to D.C., New York to New South Wales.
To celebrate this big milestone - you are invited to "the now life is serious tour". A weekend of adventure, a little bit of friendly competition, great food, great wine, some karaoke, dancing and sharing and making memories.

Itinerary
Thursday 9th March 2023
Guests arrive on flights into Geneva and transfer to resort in hire cars or on train directly from Geneva Airport to Sion station. Shuttle buses from Sion station to Nendaz provided on request.
Welcome Reception - Edelweiss (19h-21h)
Distribution of Edelweiss bracelets for all inclusive Edelweiss drinks through the weekend and continuous buffet dinner. Buffet closes at 22h
Tim Phillis birthday - Edelweiss (21h30). Champagne toast & cake cutting at Edelweiss
Friday 10th
8h45 - Meet at Edelweiss for breakfast with weekend run through.
9h15 - Join a guided ski group with ES Ski School depending on your level to enjoy a days leisure skiing
12h30 - 14h Lunch in Dahu - Verbier
15h45 - Onwards, meet at Le Bob on Tracouet for drinks
16h30 - Après ski in Edelweiss
17h30 - 19h - Shower and change in chalets / hotels
19h - pre dinner champagne reception at Chalet Hanbury
20h - Dinner at Hameau Les Cleves with after dinner drinks at bar with race day team draw and briefing
Saturday 11th
8h30 - Breakfast (tea/coffee and bread / pastries) & collect race gear from Edelweiss -Meet ski race guides and race day briefing
9h15 -16h30 - Adventure Race Day. Starting and ending at Edelweiss
Guests will have two options
The 4 Valley Elite Challenge - split into groups of 4 and led by elite ES instructors, these teams will attempt to ski / snowboard - the entire 4 Valleys in a day, the 3rd largest single ski area in Europe with a massive 412km of ski slopes. With multiple challenges set through the course of the day each team will have to be on their very best form to complete this unique adventure race! Skiers / boarders should be able to ski black runs and be able to ski at a reasonable pace throughout the day.
Ski Social Challenge - these skiers (put into groups according to ski standards) will also complete the 4 Valleys Challenge, albeit with a shorter, more relaxed ski itinerary, no less fun than the the Elite Challenge. These groups will meet for lunch in the sun accompanied with plenty of rose at Mouton Noir restaurant in Verbier. Anyone comfortable skiing red runs can complete this race.
16h onwards - Cross the finish line and après-ski party with live band (Edelweiss wristbands required for bar) -Drop ski gear off at Premier Alpine shop if no plans to ski Sunday
19h30 - Tchin Tchin restaurant
19h30 -20h - Medal ceremony
20h - 21h30 - Dinner (pizza / pasta)
21h - 12h30 - Dancing and karaoke in après ski bar Edelweiss
12h30 - After party at Mutty’s Bar
Hotel accommodation:
Best value option is Edelweiss https://www.edelweissnendaz.com/fr/ where much of the action will take place during the weekend including team breakfast, race day start and finish. It is next to the Telecabine. Your next option up the scale is a brand new hotel called
Mad Mount - the website will be launched soonish I am told. It will be a very good 3 star hotel bang in the center of town so 2 mins walk to the Telecabine and most event locations.
Etagnes Hotel - this mid tier hotel is right next to the Telecabine 2 mins walk from Edelweiss https://www.lesetagnes.com/en/ and has its own lively Apres Ski scene. It also offers apartments for anyone wanting to share
4 Valleys Hotel - For those that want more luxury also https://www.hotelnendaz4vallees.ch/ very central and where the spa is.
Transport
⁃ Buses will be provided from Sion train station to Nendaz and back on Sunday.
⁃ Please email me your flight details arrival and departure and whether you will be coming by train (trains leave every 30 mins from Geneva airport direct to Sion) and therefore require a shuttle bus from Sion to Nendaz (25 mins) on the Thursday and Sunday?
⁃ Race guides provided - groups to be drawn out of hats in resort
For those flying in to Geneva Airport, trains leave Geneva Airport Station (within the terminal) every 30 minutes. You are heading to Sion. Tickets can be purchased online at www.sbb.ch or at the station very easily. The train journey is fabulous if taken in daylight and will take 2 hours. There is no bar on board the train but there is a shop which sells wine / beer just before you enter the platform.
Kit
⁃ Premier Alpine in part with Premier Alpine are offering special rates on ski and snowboard rental. Use reference “Newcastle” when you get to the shop.

Costs
⁃ Contributions from each guest to cover ski guiding, drinks and meals tba
⁃ Heavily discounted extra ski lessons available on request. Please contact jamie@europeansnowsport.com directly, the Head of European Snowsports, the leading English speaking ski school in Nendaz if you want a refresher ski or snowboard session on the Friday to fine tune you for race day.
